Small Town Thriller Author is Guest of Local Book Club

The Kiowa Book Club invited me to join them for their discussion of my small town thriller novel, Run For The Hills. They chose this book because I am a local author, and I set the opening chapters of my book in their small town; a close neighbor to my own. I was excited to meet the members of this club and when I arrived, they welcomed me right into their fold.

Thrill Level

We enjoyed a lively conversation about books, writing, research, and even favorite TV thrillers. Doris, the evening’s host, provided Cowboy Salsa to coordinate with the western theme of Run For The Hills, and the Flint River Series which is primarily set in a small fictional town in Montana.

Book Club members shared their varying levels of thriller tolerance. Some were cautious, not wanting to be too frightened when they consume media of any type, and others read and view for maximum excitement. All loved the animals, both horses and dogs.

Equine Therapy in Fiction

We talked quite a bit about the use of equine assisted therapy with people suffering from PTSD. I highlight this type of therapy throughout Run For The Hills. I spent many years working in this field and I share the essence of my experiences in the book. Equine therapy uses the dynamic connection between horses and people to help with emotional and mental health, and to teach life skills and provide personal growth. I worked with teens in the foster care system and the equine experience proved to be a powerful means of reaching these hurting kids.

Local History

The photo above is of the Kiowa Library. It is located in an old church building that was built in 1903. The congregation left the area in the 1950s and moved to Castle Rock, Colorado. The building has housed a library ever since. It is a beautiful stone building with colorful stained glass windows. I hadn’t taken the opportunity to visit this special library before, but now I plan to sneak off to write there in one of the library’s quiet corners as often as I can.

Thank you!

Thank you to the Kiowa Book Club for your kind invitation and delightful evening. I hope you enjoy The Flint River Christmas as your November book choice. I’m sure I’ll see you again soon!

The Flint River Christmas and The Flint River Cookbook are both FREE companion books to the Flint River Series. Enjoy them both, with my compliments.
